US Military Strike Cripples Telecommunications Infrastructure in Caracas and Miranda

CARACAS — The National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) has confirmed that the United States military offensive carried out in the early hours of January 3 has severely impacted the telecommunications sector across Caracas and Miranda.

In a statement released alongside images of the destruction, Conatel detailed the aftermath of the bombing at Cerro "El Volcán," located between the municipalities of El Hatillo and Baruta. The airstrikes caused significant structural damage to three major transmission towers, leaving tangled debris and destroyed satellite equipment in their wake.

According to the commission, the attack has triggered widespread service disruptions. Residents in the affected areas are experiencing failures in wireless internet, fiber optics, mobile telephony, open signal broadcasting, and radio communications. The incident also caused a temporary blackout of open television signals.

Conatel emphasized that the severity of the destruction will require a "considerable period" of technical work to fully repair. However, the agency announced that it is already coordinating closely with commercial operators to restore essential services to the affected zones in the shortest time possible.
