KOLKATA — High tension prevailed at Jadavpur University , one of India's premier centers of higher education, following a violent standoff involving approximately two hundred alleged outside miscreants associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The situation deteriorated rapidly near the university's administrative block, Aurobindo Bhavan, where numerous students found themselves trapped inside the barricaded premises. According to accounts from students on the scene, a crowd gathered on the opposite side of the locked collapsible gates, hurling explicit obscenities directly targeting female students trapped within.
Eyewitnesses further reported that burning projectiles were thrown inside the administrative building where the students were barricaded, creating widespread panic. The alarming incident has drawn severe criticism regarding campus safety, with students questioning the apparent absence and delayed response of law enforcement and administrative authorities during the escalation.
Past instances of campus unrest and security standoffs at the university have been previously covered by news outlets such as The Wire .
