Azad Hind Fauj's Rani took charge of the Jhansi Regiment (July 16, 1943), the first such women's regiment in Asia and indicative of a far-reaching vision. In 1981, she was a founding member of the women's wing of Akhil Bharatiya Janavadi Mahila Samiti of CPI (M) and therefore directly participated in various party activities and campaigns.
In December 1984, the doctor led the team in the Bhopal gas accident. In the same year, in the context of anti-Sikh riots, She did public relations in Kanpur in order to maintain peace. In 1996, she was arrested for campaigning against the organization of the Miss World pageant held in Bangalore. Even at the age of 92, she regularly treated patients at her clinic in Kanpur until 2006.
In 2002, four left-wing parties in India - CPI, CPI(M), Revolutionary Socialist Party and All India Forward Bloc nominated Lakshmi Shehgal as President Election.
On July 19, 2012, Captain Lakshmi Sehgal was diagnosed with heart disease. She then died at the age of 97 on July 23, 2012 at 11:20 in Kanpur.Her body was donated to Kanpur Medical College for medical needs.
