Footballer Babu Mani is a very familiar name and face to those who watched Kolkata football in the 1980s. That Babu Mani is no more today. The former footballer was suffering from liver disease.

On Saturday evening, news broke of the demise of former footballer Babu Mani at the age of 61. The late forward was a goal scorer for Mohun Bagan in the last Kolkata derby held at the Eden Gardens.

In 1983, Babu Mani came to Kolkata from Bangalore to play. The first club was Mohammedan Sporting. Since that time, Babu Mani has played with power in the three majors of Kolkata for two consecutive decades. Babu Mani wore the red yellow jersey when Syed Naeemuddin was coaching East Bengal. The late former footballer played for India in the AFC Asian Cup in 1984. The late former footballer Babu Mani left behind his wife, son and daughter.
