Ten schoolgirls were electrocuted in a girls' dormitory in Kakdeweep, North 24 Parganas. Five of them are in critical condition. They were admitted to Kakdwip Super Specialty Hospital. The accident happened around 10:30 pm on Saturday. However, the hostel authorities said that no students were electrocuted.
According to local sources, a sudden short circuit occurred in the pump of the central government residence located in Haripur in the Swami Vivekananda Panchayat of Kakdewep. The alarm rope fell on Grid. From this wire, the current spreads to the network. One of the students got shocked as soon as he touched the net. Several other students were electrocuted when they released him.
According to the housing authority, there was an electrical failure in the pump itself. Meanwhile, the dweller gets excited after seeing sparks from there. As a result, many other students fell ill. After receiving the information, firefighters, electricians and police were quickly present at the scene. At first the electrical connection to the dormitory was cut off. Then all students were safely evacuated. Lockdown staff visited the dormitory on this day. All the injured are sixth, eighth and ninth grade students. Currently, everyone is said to be in good health.
A local resident named Krishnadas said, `Hearing the screams of the students, 25-30 of my people rushed to the dormitory door and broke it and rescued the students. I called an ambulance and took the girls one by one to the hospital.”
