At eight in the morning on Monday, the second and last round of voting for the crucial assembly election in Gujarat will get underway. The elections will take place in 93 of Gujarat's 182 assembly seats spread out throughout 14 districts in central Gujarat, including the cities of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Gandhinagar.
On December 1, voting took place for 89 seats, and the results of both phases of the election are expected to be announced on December 8 once the ballots have been counted. The incumbent chief minister Bhupendra Patel (Ghatlodia), Patidar leader Hardik Patel (Viramgam), Other Backward Caste (OBC) leader Alpesh Thakor (Gandhinagar South), former minister Shankar Chaudhary (Tharad), and Jignesh Mevani are other important contenders in this round of the election (Vadgam). While Patel, Thakor, and Chaudhary are running as candidates for the BJP, Mevani is running as a candidate for the Congress.
Twenty-five million eligible voters will be able to cast their ballots during this round of voting, with 12.9 million males and 12.2 million women making up the voting population. In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also cast their ballots in the city of Ahmedabad. The state in which the Prime Minister was born has historically been a bastion of support for the BJP, which is now campaigning for a record seventh term in office. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is headed by Arvind Kejriwal, and the Congress Party are two other major parties competing in this election.
