Alappuzha: The Punnapra-Vayalar Uprising, which took place in 1941 under the leadership of the Communist Party of India, is a historic chapter in the history of the Indian freedom struggle. This uprising, which was launched against the monarchy and the cartels under the slogan of a workers' and peasants' revolution, ended in armed struggle and bloodshed.
The 77th anniversary of this uprising is being celebrated today. In this uprising, which took place in various places including Punnapra, Vayalar, Mennaserry, and Mararikulam, a large number of martyrs sacrificed their lives. Various programs were organized today to pay homage to their memory.
The Punnapra-Vayalar Uprising is a major chapter in the history of the Indian freedom struggle. This uprising was the beginning of the struggle against imperialism, cartels, and communalism. It is our responsibility to remember the history of these struggles and continue them.
Anti-imperialist, anti-cartel, anti-communal struggles will continue
In a statement issued today on the 77th anniversary of the Punnapra-Vayalar Uprising, CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan said, "The Punnapra-Vayalar Uprising is a major chapter in the history of the Indian freedom struggle. This uprising was the beginning of the anti-imperialist, anti-cartel, anti-communal struggle. It is our responsibility to remember the history of this struggle and continue it.
"Today, the country is again going through a phase of anti-imperialist, anti-cartel, anti-communal struggle. To win this struggle, we should be inspired by the memory of the Punnapra-Vayalar martyrs.
"The anti-imperialist, anti-cartel, anti-communal struggle will continue. This struggle has to continue to transform our country into a just society that ensures social justice and economic justice."
