Shakti Sthal - A symbol of sacrifice, patriotism and power
Shakti Sthal, literally meaning 'Place of Strength', is a memorial in Raj Ghat, New Delhi, India, marking the cremation site of Indira Gandhi, the first and only female Prime Minister of India. It is a place where people from all over the country come to pay their respects to this great leader, who is remembered for her sacrifice, patriotism, and power.
Indira Gandhi was assassinated on October 31, 1984, by her own bodyguards. Her death was a shock to the nation, and her funeral was a grand affair, attended by dignitaries from all over the world. She was cremated at the Shakti Sthal, and a memorial was built there in her honor.
The memorial is a simple but elegant one. It consists of a large monolithic rock of iron ore, symbolizing Indira Gandhi's strength and determination. The rock is placed on a marble platform, and surrounded by a lush green garden.
On the platform, there is a plaque with the following inscription:
