Nearly two months after a harrowing sexual assault incident sent shockwaves through the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-BHU) campus in Varanasi, authorities have finally arrested three suspects. However, the case has taken a political turn with two of the accused, Kunal Pandey and Saksham Patel, reportedly affiliated with the BJP IT cell in Varanasi. The victim, a female student, filed a complaint in November alleging that she was accosted, disrobed, and sexually assaulted by three unidentified men on a motorcycle inside the campus grounds. While the arrests offer a semblance of progress, the alleged BJP links of two of the accused cast a long shadow over the case.
