The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) negotiations over seat-sharing with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have hit a snag, with discussions appearing stalled on Friday. Despite scheduled talks, the party's leadership faces challenging negotiations in states like Maharashtra and Bihar, where managing allies' demands is paramount.
Talks with the BJD for both the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections, which initially seemed to progress smoothly, have encountered obstacles, particularly over the allocation of seats in Puri and Bhubaneshwar. The divergence became evident when State BJP Chief Manmohan Samal emphasized that an alliance was never on the table, underscoring the BJP's intention to form the government in the state.
Key aides of BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, V K Pandian and Pranab Prakash Das, who hastened to New Delhi for discussions with BJP leadership, have since returned to Bhubaneswar, indicating the complexities in the negotiations.
