HANOI — The Vietnamese capital has been transformed into a sea of crimson and gold as the city enters its final stage of preparations for the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). Scheduled to take place from January 19 to 25, 2026, the event is being hailed as a pivotal turning point that will usher the nation into a "new era of national rise."
A Capital in Celebration
Across Hanoi’s historic boulevards and modern administrative districts, thousands of hammers-and-sickles, national flags, and vibrant flower arrangements have been installed. Major landmarks, including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Ba Dinh Square area, are adorned with large-scale banners and LED displays featuring the portrait of President Ho Chi Minh and the Congress's official motto:
"Solidarity – Democracy – Discipline – Breakthrough – Development"
Key thoroughfares such as Phan Dinh Phung, Dien Bien Phu, and the banks of Hoan Kiem Lake are lined with posters highlighting Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements over 40 years of the Doi Moi (Renewal) process.

The Congress will gather 1,586 delegates, representing more than five million Party members from across the country. This 14th iteration is of particular historical weight, as it aims to:
Finalize the 2026–2030 development strategy, with a vision toward making Vietnam a high-income developed nation by 2045.
Elect a new Central Committee and top leadership to guide the country through increasingly complex global shifts.
Promote "Strategic Autonomy," a new core concept in the Party's draft documents emphasizing self-reliance and digital transformation as primary driving forces.
Security and Logistics at "Highest Level"
Security in the capital has reached its peak. On January 10, the Ministry of Public Security conducted a massive rehearsal involving nearly 5,000 officers and specialized equipment to ensure absolute safety for the delegates.
General Secretary To Lam has emphasized that this Congress is not merely a routine political meeting but a "moment of strategic choice" to transform Vietnam’s "growth miracle" into sustainable, high-quality development.
