CHENNAI — The CPI(M) Tamil Nadu state committee office hosted the official release of Politics and Algorithms (அரசியலும் அல்காரிதமும்), authored by state committee member R. Bhadri, on Thursday. Published by Thamizhbooks (Bharathi Puthakalayam) , the book examines how big tech platforms, corporate capitalism, and automated systems shape modern political narratives and public perception.
CPI(M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam formally released the book, presenting the first copy to K.P. Lenin. The launch event was presided over by CPI(M) State Secretariat member S. Kannan and coordinated by State Committee member R. Sudhir.
Navigating Modern Technology and Public Discourse
Speaking at the launch, P. Shanmugam highlighted the urgent need for progressive movements to adapt to rapid developments in social media and information technology. He emphasized that understanding these tools is essential for modern political organizing.
"Rapid advances in social media and IT make it essential to decode how new technologies operate. Politics and Algorithms serves as a practical guide for utilizing digital channels constructively and raising public consciousness."— P. Shanmugam, CPI(M) State Secretary
Resisting Automated Censorship and Dissent Control
Presiding over the function, S. Kannan detailed how digitisation and automated news distribution have fundamentally altered media dynamics. He pointed out that online platforms increasingly rely on recommendation algorithms that restrict dissenting voices and suppress anti-establishment perspectives.
Kannan urged grassroots organizers and people’s movements to develop strategies to bypass algorithmic suppression, ensure the free flow of critical information, and build resilient digital networks to reach the public directly.
