Cuba Pays Respect In Last journey Of Shinzo

Japan is bound by sincere friendship and cooperation

The member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, led the Cuban delegation that participated in the state funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo

Solemn, respectful of Japanese traditions and of the place that Abe Shinzo occupied in the recent evolution of this country, the state funeral of the former Japanese prime minister took place on Tuesday, which was attended by a Cuban delegation, headed by member of the Political Bureau and prime minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.

At the ceremony, which took place at the Nippon Budokan stadium in Tokyo, and was attended by more than 4,000 people, including representatives of more than 200 countries and international organizations, Abe's work as head of the Government was remembered, whose mandate (2012- 2020) is the longest in Japan since the postwar period.

The presence of a high-level Cuban delegation, also made up of Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Alberto Blanco Silva, director of Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Miguel Ángel Ramírez Ramos, Cuban ambassador here, constitutes, on the one hand, an expression of the importance that the Greater Antilles attaches to relations between the two countries and, on the other, reflects how much Abe promoted said ties.

The former prime minister, Marrero Cruz stressed on several occasions, was the first of his rank in Japan to visit Cuba, in 2016, and this marked a favorable turn in the ties between the two nations. Trade and cooperation exchanges were strengthened, and affection between peoples was consolidated, something that Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz promoted with his two visits to the Asian country.

One after another, the delegations paid tribute to Abe Shinzo and laid flowers in his name, as a show of support for the political leader's death and in recognition of his work in the field of diplomacy and national security.

Later, from the Akasaka Palace, the current Japanese Prime Minister, Kishida Fumio, greeted the heads of delegations and thanked them for their participation in the funeral. In the Cuban case, he also sent greetings to the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
