A fire broke out in the basement of Rajasthan Hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Tuesday morning. The fire caused thick smoke to fill the basement, and over 100 patients were evacuated from the hospital as a precautionary measure.
The fire department was alerted to the blaze at around 2:30 a.m., and 20-25 fire engines were dispatched to the scene. The fire was brought under control after about two hours, but the basement sustained significant damage.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have started in the basement's electrical room. No injuries were reported, and all of the patients were safely evacuated.
The fire has caused significant disruption to the hospital's operations, and it is not yet clear when the hospital will be able to fully reopen.
In a statement, the hospital said:
"We are grateful to the fire department for their swift action in bringing the fire under control. We are also grateful to our staff for their quick and efficient response in evacuating the patients. We are currently assessing the damage and will provide updates as soon as possible."
The fire is a reminder of the importance of fire safety in hospitals. Hospitals are often crowded and contain a variety of flammable materials, making them a potential fire hazard. It is important for hospitals to have a comprehensive fire safety plan in place, and to regularly conduct fire drills to ensure that staff are prepared to respond to a fire.
